For the third time, the Slovak national team took part in the European final of The European Cybersecurity Challenge in Turin in October, a competition for young ‘hacker’ talents.
National Team Slovakia 2024 consisted of ten members – one girl and nine boys aged 15 to 22, selected from 15 participants of the national CybeGame competition.
The young talents have been preparing for the finals for several months at training bootcamps, an international one in Vienna and six weekend ones at the manor house in Brunovce. There they attended lectures and workshops on OSINT, WEB, Forensics, Crypto, Radio, and participated in online CTF competitions. The rest of their time was devoted to online preparation.
The national training and organisation, including the competitions, is provided by Alexandra Húsková and Tomáš Hettych from the Cyber Security Competence and Certification Centre. The technical preparation of the team is led by Lukáš Balážik and Adam Gajdošík.
The European Cybersecurity Challenge brings together talented young people and is organised by ENISA, the EU’s cybersecurity agency. Teams tackle challenges in different areas: web and network security, mobile security, crypto puzzles, reverse engineering or digital forensics. As many as 400 ‘hackers’ from 40 countries were present at the tenth edition of the final in Turin, Italy.
