S3 Service. Have you heard of it?

Simple Storage Service or also S3 is a cloud service providing a simple solution for data storage. In other words, it is object storage, where by object we mean data of various types such as images, text files, web pages, mobile applications, enterprise applications or IoT devices.

These items, even with their metadata, are stored in notional sockets in S3 and can be configured to support specific usage needs. One of these is to keep multiple versions of an object in a single socket, allowing recovery of accidentally deleted or overwritten objects.

Groups and objects in them are private and can only be accessed if you explicitly grant access permissions.

How it works

To store your data in S3, you first create a “drawer” and name it. Then you upload the data – the objects in S3 – into it. Each object has a key, or key name, which is a unique identifier of the object in the group.

S3 is designed for 99.95 percent data availability because it automatically creates and stores copies of all objects across multiple systems. This means that data is protected from failures, errors and threats and always available when needed.

You save costs without sacrificing performance by storing data in S3 storage classes that support different levels of data access with corresponding speeds. You can find out which data should be moved to a cheaper storage tier by analyzing the storage tiers, and it can also be stored in the S3 Intelligent-Tiering tier, which creates object tiers and automatically provides cost savings.

Is it safe?

S3 has unparalleled security, compliance and audit capabilities. It secures data from unauthorized access with encryption features and access management tools. S3 is the only object storage service that allows you to block public access to all your objects at the socket or account level using S3 Block Public Access.

Main advantages
  • It is a cloud service with space for secure data storage with automatic backup;
  • It allows you to transfer your complete storage infrastructure and store your data easily;
  • This way, you can take advantage of the flexibility of the cloud, scale up and down based on your needs, and take advantage of a pay-per-use system;
  • The technologies used in object storage create ideal conditions for providing a comprehensive data recovery system;
  • It has mechanisms to move legacy data to long term temporary storage, ensuring cost reduction;
  • It provides superior performance, scalability, availability and resilience;
  • It is a cheap and reliable way of storing objects.
Who is S3 for?

For customers of all sizes and industries to store and protect any amount of data for a variety of use cases.
